MEMBER WRITING

Each month, this page has the writing of a Summit Scribes member. It may be a poem, an opinion piece, or another type of writing. These writings show the wide variety of writing that our members enjoy creating.
2009 MCC Longview Literary Festival a success!
This year's Lit Fest showcased some of the writing talent that saturates the KC Metro Area. As a young girl growing up a school teacher’s daughter in Iowa, writing always a dream.  Now it’s a goal, in part because of the wonderful instruction I received at the KU Journalism School and also due to the networking available in the KC Metro Area. The Literary Festival promotes that kind of networking each fall. If you who are new to the Summit Scribes, we welcome you and look forward to hearing about your work at meetings  and celebrating your publishing endeavors!
Nothing like the Scribes existed back home. The high school freshman that wanted to be the next S.E. Hinton didn’t have much of a network to assist with her goals.  I was fortunate to have an English teacher who believed in me then and still does today. She has helped nurture and support my writing dream.  And I have a mother, grandmother, and godmothers who’ve helped support, nurture and to finance my quest.
My goal in 2010 is to have my table at the Lit Fest with my book published and available for anyone who wants to read it. Much of the promoting I’ll be doing for the festival next year will still be here in the Metro area, but also some back home to let them know that a thriving writing community does exist today.  For Summit Scribes, or Kansas City Writers, or Members of the Missouri Writers Guild, please complete your present writing masterpiece so you can be at the Festival next year to sell your work.
